Getting Help
Numerous families and individuals pass through the shelter throughout the year. The process usually starts with a call to our client resource coordinator, Lynne. She listens to the caller’s story and asks questions to determine what services Advocates can provide. If it is determined that the person qualifies for housing at the shelter, a meeting is set up with the client to enroll them in our system. Once the paperwork is completed, the client is shown where they will be staying.
The Shelter
Our housing allows for families to stay together in one room, sleeping together and having a space to call their own. Another family shares the other room in the house. Single women are typically housed together, each with their own rooms. (Although it is not guaranteed that a family or individual will not have to share room space with another, at Advocates we try to make sure that each family unit is allowed their own room if at all possible.)
Each house has its own living room, bathroom, kitchen, and laundry. All houses are tastefully furnished in every area. All general housing supplies, such as soaps, dishes, pots and pans are present, and any consumable items are restocked when needed. Each house has entrance to a back yard area with play areas and toys for the children.

As many of our clients come to us with nothing but the clothes on their backs, Advocates provides as much help as we are able. Two weeks of food is given to all new clients, as well as clothing vouchers for Classy Seconds. Children are given toys and school supplies. After the initial two weeks, food and clothing and items are supplied as needed.
Once settled, a client starts on the road to recovery utilizing the Advocates program along the way. Clients attend weekly group counseling sessions, as well as meeting one-on-one with various staff members. The staff provides guidance and support during this difficult time, and help toward the ultimate goal of client independence.
