Share Your Holiday Food Drive
The annual "Share Your Christmas Food Drive" was a success! Thank you to everyone that stopped by with a donation. We would like to send a special thank you to the Raiders Booster Club, St. Paul’s Lutheran Young Adult Group, Carson City Democratic Women’s Club, WNC Student Government and to all the wonderful volunteers that are always supporting our agency. So many of our wonderful volunteers took the morning off work to come and help us. We truly can’t thank you enough!
Everyone who either provided donations, volunteer support or entertainment you are so very much appreciated. We have the best volunteers in our community! You give up your nights and weekends to help victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Thank you for always being there for our clients no matter what time of day or night we know we can count on our volunteers. It is because of you that Advocates is able to help women and children escape dangerous situation!
Volunteers like ours are priceless! Always caring, always sharing. You represent our community at its best. Volunteers like you are people who reach out to others and in so doing, become extraordinary. You bring joy and sunshine and set an example, whereever you go. Thanks for all you do. You are truly treasured by everyone at Advocates. Thank you from the staff!
From the Shelter...
As usual we were busy at the end of the year. Staring with the food drive, we did share the Share Your Christmas Food this year so we ended up with a third of what we usually receive that day. But we should be good until the Post Office Food Drive in May. In the past, the Post Office Food Drive would be a supplement but this year it will fill empty shelves.
From the Food drive we moved right on to Christmas which is always crazy but lots of fun at the same time. As always I love to walk through the shelter to see the unveiling and it’s good to see the smiles on the faces of the kids and even more the Moms. They’re so happy that their children are having a good day… lots of toys, treats and a wonderful dinner for each family.
The holidays are difficult on lots of folks and we really appreciate all the time and effort everyone puts into the shelter for the holidays. Each of our families wants you to know how thankful they are.

Advocates to End Domestic Violence
AEDV is a private, not-for-profit organization. We were formed in 1979 by two formerly battered women who saw a need for a domestic violence program in Carson City, Nevada. We have grown from a small two-bedroom apartment, to a full service program that operates a 51-bed shelter and provides a wide variety of services designed to protect and support battered women and their children in the community.
Our mission is to provide a safe, supportive environment where domestic violence victims can re-examine their view of themselves and work towards a violence free future. We accept a woman as she is and encourage her positive growth toward independence and self- sufficiency.
