The Playroom
The time has come to do a little udating of the Play Room and a Dr. Seuss theme has been chose. Relying heavily on the Cat in the Hat, our central colors will be black, white and red. If you come across gently used Dr. Seuss books, characters or accent pieces that follow the theme colors, please keep us in mind. If you are in the neighborhood, feel free to stop in and see our progress!
Sara Volunteer Training
Training starts on September 16. We have great speakers coming in to teach us first hand. It would be a great opportunity to learn about Sexual Violence and the effects it has on victims, family, friends, and our community. If you are interested in joining our training, please call Traci or Kari at 883-7654. The schedule is September16-19 and September 23-24. The weeknight classes are from 6pm to 9pm and the weekend classes are from 8am to 5pm. In order to receive a certificate you must complete the full 40 hours of training. We are looking for at least 5 new volunteers, that way our team members only have to take calls every other month. We can use all the help we can get.
From the Shelter
Did the summer go by quickly or what! Well the start of school went smoothly at the shelter, thanks to all who brought school supplies. It’s always nice to be able to send our kids out the door with new stuff like everyone else. We do have some other needs at the shelter. I would really like to have some new bed pillows and we always need laundry soap (High-Efficiency detergents please), dryer sheets, cleaning supplies, and toilet paper.
Friday night is pizza and movie night at the shelter. If you have DVDs you no longer need we would love to have them. We’ve been trying to build our DVD library for some time. We get lots of VHS movies which we love but would like to have a good library of both. Thank you!
Advocates to End Domestic Violence (AEDV) is a private, not-for-profit organization. We were formed in 1979 by two formerly battered women who saw a need for a domestic violence program in Carson City, Nevada. We have grown from a small two-bedroom apartment, to a full service program that operates a 51-bed shelter and provides a wide variety of services designed to protect and support battered women and their children in the community.
Our mission is to provide a safe, supportive environment where domestic violence victims can re-examine their view of themselves and work towards a violence free future. We accept a woman as she is and encourage her positive growth toward independence and self- sufficiency.
